Biostimulators are a class of non-surgical cosmetic injectables designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. They are frequently used for patients who want to rejuvenate their facial or body aesthetic and reduce the severity of age-related concerns, from skin laxity to wrinkles to volume loss and beyond.
By focusing on balance and subtle enhancement, Dr. Hart and Jenny Azar, NP-C can use biostimulators to create refreshed, youthful contours that align seamlessly with your natural facial structure or physique.
What Is a Biostimulator?
Biostimulator injectables are regularly used to contour the face, neck, hands, and body. They are distinct from dermal fillers and neurotoxins in that their results are typically progressive. In other words, effects generally become more apparent following a series of treatments over several weeks as the body produces new collagen and elastin fibers, revitalizing skin tissue and prompting a dramatic enhancement.*
Patients sometimes consider biostimulators a less invasive alternative to facelift surgery or other more intensive options. In fact, biostimulators are frequently used as part of the non-surgical liquid facelift procedure.

What Types of Biostimulators Are Available?
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a highly sought-after injectable that contains a unique formula of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. Also used traditionally as a dermal filler, Radiesse® in its hyperdiluted form is a popular example of a biostimulator. The addition of lidocaine and saline allows Hyperdiluted Radiesse® to cover a wider range of body areas, often making it ideal for patients who want to tighten skin and replenish volume in the face, neck, décolleté, hands, knees, arms, and elsewhere.
Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic is distinguished by its key ingredient: poly-L-lactic acid. Like Hyperdiluted Radiesse® and other biostimulators, Sculptra® Aesthetic can gradually encourage the body to renew its collagen production. By promoting thickness and a sturdy foundation for the skin, the injectable can address wrinkles, fine lines, and other age-related phenomena. Alternatively, a Sculptra® butt lift can add modest shape and fullness to the gluteal region.
What Does the Biostimulator Treatment Entail?
Biostimulator injections are performed in-office and typically take about 45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. The procedure involves carefully injecting the biostimulator into targeted regions of the face or body using a fine needle or cannula (or blunt-tipped needle). To enhance comfort, a topical anesthetic can be applied before the injections; however, most patients tolerate the treatment well without numbing.
Side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, or itching, but these should fade quickly as you heal.* While most patients can resume normal activities immediately, we generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for the rest of the day. For even distribution and optimal effects, patients may be advised to gently massage the treated area as part of their aftercare routine.
How Much Do Biostimulators Cost?
The cost of biostimulator treatments varies based on several factors, including:
- The type of biostimulator used
- The size and location of the treatment area (face, hands, buttocks, etc.)
- The number of sessions required to achieve optimal results (often two to three treatments)
- Whether additional procedures are incorporated
- Anesthesia and facility fees
- Preoperative and postoperative care
Our team always strives to make aesthetic treatments as accessible as possible. Eligible patients can apply for financing options through CareCredit® and Alphaeon® Credit, two third-party lenders that offer flexible monthly payment plans. During your preoperative appointment, we will provide a personalized cost estimate and discuss the best plan to achieve your desired results.
