What Is a Thighplasty?
Thighplasty (or a “thigh lift”) is a cosmetic procedure that aims to reshape and tighten the thighs. This surgery can address issues such as sagging skin, stubborn fat deposits, and loss of skin elasticity in the thighs, which can result from aging, significant weight loss, or genetic factors. Thighplasty involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the inner or outer thighs; from there, the remaining skin can be lifted and tightened to create a smoother contour.
Am I a Candidate For Thighplasty?
In general, ideal candidates for thighplasty include patients who:
- Have excess skin and/or fat on their thighs that does not respond to diet and exercise
- Have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery
- Are in good overall health/at a stable weight, and are committed to maintaining a healthy postoperative lifestyle
- Do not smoke (or are willing to quit smoking before and after the surgery)
What Does the Thighplasty Procedure Entail?
Thighplasty is performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient setting. Depending on the extent of correction needed, Dr. Connors or Dr. Hart may place incisions along the inner thigh, the groin area, or the outer thigh; the pattern and length of these incisions can vary based on your individual needs. After removing and redraping skin and fat as needed, they will close the incisions with sutures and apply dressings or bandages to the surgical site.
Dr. Connors and Dr. Hart often employ the avulsion thighplasty technique, which uses liposuction to remove fat alongside lax skin in the resection area. This method has been shown not only to produce aesthetically pleasing results, but also to minimize lymphatic complications and make for a quicker recovery time in most cases.*
